Describe your work as if you're speaking to a 5 year old.

I am making paintings of larger than life human figures. These colorful figures evoke strong emotions even as they are still and silent within their environment. They sit in bodies of water and the depth of water varies from painting to painting. The water level informs different feelings of urgency, stress, contemplation, emotion, etc.

The figures are curled into a huddled position with their knees pulled close. It reminds me of a baby in their mother's womb. It also reminds me of the climate emergency that we are living through and the feeling that we are collectively too big to move ourselves in this critical moment.

Your preferred method of getting that good creative vibe going.

I like to start with a clean space that feels organized and calm. Lots of water and good, loud music late at night is always my preference.

One living artist or designer you want to have cocktails with.

Thomas Evans AKA Detour. I just love the projects he takes on and the work he produces, as well as how much he gives back to the art community. He regularly shares his knowledge, experiences and intentions on social media for everyone's benefit.

What drives you absolutely nuts about the (art) world?

It drives me nuts trying to navigate the value and worth of anything. I try to imagine a world where things don't cost money, people aren't rich or poor and nature isn't being exploited and harmed for the financial gain of a few.

A quote or lyric that your brain won’t shake.

"The times are urgent, let's slow down." - Báyò Akómoláfé

Most recent song you've been listening to on repeat.

Last book you read that you couldn't put down.

Recent life upgrade that's been a game changer.

I got a 3D printer in my studio last month which has allowed me to model and create some fun projects. My degree is in animation and I have always been excited by the idea of combining my studio practice with my animation experience. It seems like the paths are finally merging!

Advice, compliment, insult...something that you will never forget.

I was struggling to think of ways to engage and connect with my community and a friend told me to engage through creativity. My creativity is the most honest, real, natural quality that I have. It's always the best option for me when it comes to genuine connection.

What podcast or show are you recommending that others may not have heard/seen?

Severance! I can't imagine everyone hasn't heard of this, but it's my favorite show. I've watched Season 1 multiple times, waiting for Season 2 to come out (it's apparently been very delayed). They finally announced Season 2 coming January 17th 2025!

If someone asks you to cook your "specialty" - what are you cooking?

Rice and beans!

A piece of art in your home that you LOVE.

This painting by Tashema Davis.

Huge shout out to ______ for ______!

Tia Emily for being a huge support for me in both my scariest and most hopeful moments.
